A Live Ableton Workshop with Poetmistry!

Cohort Timing:

This 8 week course will run from Sept 9th to Oct 28th
Sessions are once a week on Wednesdays at 1pm & 7pm EST for 2 hours via Zoom (you can attend either, content is the same)
All sessions will be recorded (you will receive a login for my site after checkout to access all course materials & recordings)

Overview:

This Ableton workshop is about breaking down the sound design techniques used by our favorite artists and using those techniques to create our own original compositions.

Each week, we will usually dive into a track by a specific artist to try and understand what makes it so special. We will listen, discuss, analyze, dissect, and of course, jump into Ableton!

However, we're not just going to make weird sounds. We're also going to talk about how to actually use these sounds to make our own songs. There will be a whole session dedicated to learning how to build out tracks. As the class goes on you'll get plenty of chances to share your work and receive feedback. We'll likely also talk about easy ways to do basic mixing and mastering.

Details:

Difficulty: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate (although this course caters to a range of skill levels, you should have a basic knowledge of how to navigate and use Ableton)
Project Files will only be compatible with Ableton 11 & 12
Each session we will:

listen to and analyze a track (so come prepared for discussion and participation)
break down the track’s production in Ableton (we will not be focused on exact recreation, but rather how the track can inspire our own creation)
make music - you will be given time in session to create (you’ll also receive an Ableton project file with samples and presets so you can immediately mess around)

Each week there will be optional assignments (halfway thru & in our final session, everyone will have the chance to share something they’ve created in the class)
